Hi there,
I'm new to audioweaver. I'm using version 5.16 standard edition.
When I try to load a FIR filter I can view it's frequency response which seems to be o.k but I never get any sound out of the FIR module.
When I bypass the module there is sound. The number of taps correspond with the number of taps that is loaded from file. I'm designing the filters with Rephase FIR calculation software.
In the Audioweaver install package there was also a file with a FIR filter highpass at 1kHz in it but that one also doesn't give any sound on it's output.
What am I doing wrong here? Has it got anything to do with FFT length? I have tried many different lengths but nothing works.
Is there any further documentation on how to use FIR filters. I have searched the forum but did not find anything realted to this.
The ability of using FIR filters (linear phase crossovers and phase corrections) was one of the only two reasons I bought a DSP box with Audioweaver software so I really would like to get this to work.
Thanks,
Sjef

Hello Sjef,
The FIR filter is mentioned many times in our Module User's Guide, but is specifically detailed on pages 9 & 36.
I would also recommend switching to our latest Audio Weaver version 8.C.1.1, as you are using an older version. You can find the download here: https://w.dspconcepts.com/downloads.
Lastly, if you still cannot troubleshoot on your own, it would be helpful if you could share your AWD. It will be easier to troubleshoot if we can see your exact layout with the parameters that are giving you trouble.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
thanks for your reply. I have read the manual but there is only very sparse information about the FIR filters. Sometimes I can loa them from file, sometimes not. There is no indication about how long the filters can be and how long the FFT length has to be.
Funny thing is that I have managed to get sound out of a FIR filter by loading a relative short 48kHz filter in an 192kHz environment. Offcoarse the crossover has shifted a factor 4 in frequency as well. I have tried many different things a whole day long but it is still a hit and miss. Some filter don't give any sound at all, some distort heavily, some work. I haven't figured out any correlation between them yet. All I would like to know is what parameters work and which don't.
I would like to upgrade to version 8 but unfortunatly I don't think I can. I'm running Audioweaver with a Danville Signal dspMusik 2in/8out dsp box and this one has hardware specific Audioweaver modules for input switching, sample frequency setting and DAC hardware settings. Can I just transfer these modules into version 8? Without them the dsp box does not function as it should.

Hello Sjef,
Are you experiencing these issues both Natively on your PC, and also on your target hardware? Are you able to share your AWD (or an example)?
You should be able to switch to AWE Designer 8 no problem. All new versions of Designer are expected to work with all previous versions of AWECore.
Thanks,
Kevin

Late reaction, my excuses. I have been trying to update Audioweaver to version 8C but it als has installed core 8C which does not see the Xmos USB driver of my dspMusik dsp box and it can't connect via the standard USB option either. How can I run Audioweaver designer 8C on Audioweaver Core 5.16?

Forgot to tell, Audioweaver 5.16 also can not connect to the dspMusik anymore. It says it is unable to create Danville Xmos port.

I have tried uninstalling version 5.16 to seen if there was a conflict between two versions. Now I get an error that says "Server creation failed. Invalid ProgID ÁWETalkToGUI.AWE.control. Error in awe_designer.m at line 185"

Hello Sjef,
Please let me email you on the side about your issue.
Thanks,
