If I create a subsystem, then right click -> permissions->Allow Navigation awe designer locks up. Matlab also locks up. See attached file for details. I am using Matlab R2018B, windows 10 and AWE Designer 8.B.1.4.8 Pro .
Layout->Protect Layout also locks everything up.

When you right-clicked the subsystem module and selected permissions\navigate and turned it off did a dialog pop-up asking for a password?
4:49pm
I do not see a dialog pop-up for the password.

When you change navigation permissions for a subsystem a password dialog should appear so that you can lock/unlock the subsystem with credentials. For some reason this dialog seems to not be on-top of your Designer canvas. Can you alt-tab and find in your list of Windows? Since this is a modal dialog your Designer and Matlab session will appear to be hung until you dismiss this dialog.
4:56pm
I do not see it in the alt-tab window.
5:05pm
What version of Matlab are you running?
5:09pm
I am running R2018B.
I think I have found a problem with my Dell Docking station. I am going to remove it from the equation.
5:35pm
Removing the docking station did not help. It still locks up.

The hidden dialog is a matlab dialog. In order to move the dialog where you can see it, here is the work around:
1. With the invisible dialog open, select Matlab on the upper left corner of the Matlab taskbar
2. Do alt+space and you should see a menu bar appear. Click move and then hit any of the arrow keys
3. Now if you move your mouse, the canvas dialog (should) move with it back into view.
I think this may be happening because I am using multiple monitors.
